X-Ray shows Ring shadows👇🏻

  1. Thick walled – Lung Abscess, Bronchogenic Carcinoma
  2. Thin shaggy walled – Tuberculosis, Lung Abscess, Bronchogenic Carcinoma
  3. Thin smooth walled – Tuberculosis, Bullae

Percussion: Crack pot sound (Empty)

4) LUNG FIBROSIS & COLLAPSE

1) Homogenous opacities of one hemithorax

2) Elevation of dome of diaphragm

3) Shift of the Mediastinum to the affected side

▪️Causes:

▪️ Presentation:

  • dependent on the underlying cause
  • acute presentations will likely result in breathlessness
  • more chronic collapse may remain asymptomatic
  • symptoms may relate to the underlying cause, e.g. weight loss and cough

▪️Treatment:

  • dependent on the cause of the collapse: foreign body should be removed
  • mucus may respond to chest physiotherapy
